Bayard History

In 1967 we got our first beagle, known as Tiko and registered as YOVEC BEAUFORT.

Tiko didn’t have the potential to become a champion, so we invested in a bitch called IRRISISTIBLE OF BACKMUIR and mated her  to Tiko and that was the start of the Bayard Beagles Lines.

Bayard Beagles was formally registered in 1969.

In 1970 the above mating produced CH BAYARD PISCES (Born March 27th) – known as Fred he went on to be the fourth tan and white dog to become champion.

In 1972 IRRISISTIBLE OF BACKMUIR was mated to a young dog called BAYARD GARNET, they produced CH BAYARD OLGA (Born August 26th) who was awarded 13 Challenge Certificates (CC's) in her show career.

Moving on to 1979… CH BAYARD OLGA was mated to CH DUFOSEE ZENETH and produced a Champion, CH BAYARD ZITHER and her Brother BAYARD ZOBRA who was exported as a young dog to Germany.

In 1985 our next two champions were born, CH BAYARD RUMBA who was awarded 3CC’s and CH BAYARD ZACHARIAH who really put Bayard Beagles on to the map.

CH BAYARD ZITHER was mated to Douglas Appleton's American Import CH & AM CHAMPION PIN OAKS DYNASTY OF APPELINE, this mating produced CH BAYARD ZACHARIAH.

CH BAYARD ZACHARIAH was Top Sire for 5 years. Zachariah produced many English and Overseas champions and has put his stamp on the BAYARD lines as can be seen from the photographs below, of his many sons and daughters. We sadly lost Zac in 1997 age 12.

Two more champions were born in the 80’s, both sired by Zachariah. ENG & AUST CH BAYARD RUSTLE (1987) and CH BAYARD ADAM (1989).

Eight champions during the 1990’s all sired by Zachariah.

The years 2000 – 2009 saw 8 champions being born, which included our Breed Record Holders Dam CH BAYARD MAKE AMENDS JW (Zena).

At the backend of 2013 Zena was mated to Ch NEDLAW BARBARIAN and on the 3rd January 2014 CH BAYARD FORGETMEKNOT JW (Nora) was born.
