History of Bayard

Bayard Beagles first started in 1966 with a hound called YOVEC BEAUFORT who was sired by MOORCLIFF DIALYNNE VAGABOND - Dam MANICO TRESPASS.

YOVEC BEAUFORT was mated to a bitch called IRRISISTIBLE OF BACKMUIR and they produced CH BAYARD PISCES. Who Was born in 1970.

PISCES was the fourth Tan and White Champion to be made up in the UK.

In 1972 along came CH BAYARD OLGA.

OLGA was also out of IRRISISTIBLE OF BACKMUIR by a young dog called BAYARD GARNET.

OLGA was in turn mated to CH DUFOSEE ZENETH and produced the two winners CH BAYARD ZITHER and her Brother ZOBRA who was exported as a young dog to Germany.

CH BAYARD ZITHER was mated to Douglas Appleton's American Import CH & AM CHAMPION PIN OAKS DYNASTY OF APPELINE, who produced top sire for five years CH BAYARD ZACHARIAH who sadly died in 1997.

ZAC has produced many English and Overseas champions and has put his stamp on the BAYARD lines as can be seen from the photographs of his many sons and daughters. One of the most remembered was CH BAYARD SYNDICAT OF LOWYCK who was owned by Pat and Colin Lomax. She won Best of Breed twice at Crufts, under Veronica Bradley and Harry Jordon and again the Challenge Certificate at Crufts when a veteran under Paulo Dandino. She also won the Hound Group at Crufts under Harry Jordon.

In 1997 we imported a bitch from Australia from the famous CLARION Kennels AUS CH CLARION CARILLON BELLBIRD in welp to AUS CH CLARION COMEDY - Bellbird is by AUS CH CLARION CLOAK out of ENG & AUS CHAMPION BAYARD RUSTLE who was of course by CH BAYARD ZACHARIAH out of BAYARD RIVAL sister to CH BAYARD RUMBA.

BELLBIRD had six puppies in quarantine two weeks after arriving in the UK - 2 Dogs and 4 Bitches. We kept three - BILABONG, CALAMITY JANE and ALICE SPRINGS.

BILLY has proved to be an excellent sire and produced in his first litter Ch Annavah Cranberry who qualified at the tender age of 9 months for the finals of the Pet Plan Junior Stakes. She won several heats of the Beta/Dog World Stakes and was unlucky not to qualify for the finals.

Late in 2013 we mated CH MAKE AMENDS (21CCs) to CH NEDLAW BARBARIAN who produced our most recent Champion. CH FORGET MEKNOT JW (Nora).

Nora won her first CC at the Hound Show in 2014 under breed specialist Deryck Player the day before she was 7 months old, her second at Driffield at 8 months under Martin Sanders and her third with Best of Breed at LKA at 11 months under David Craig.

CH BAYARD FORGETMEKNOT JW (NORA) has 50 CCs from 50 different judges and is the breed record holder, taking the record from CH TOO DARN HOT FOR TRAGBAND JW winner of 42 CCs from 40 different judges which ADA held for many years. Nora has retired from the showring at the age of five after doing her maternal duties, she may well return as a veteran when the time comes.

From NORA's first litter she produced BAYARD NEVER ENDING STORY (Lacey)  who is by BAYARD MEANT TO BE (Joe) who sadly left us in early 2020.  LACEY was only lightly shown in 2019 due to Juding commitments, and won her first CC and BIS at West Mercia Championship Show under Australian Judge Lesley Childs.

From NORA's second litter this time mated to MILROC SIGHTNSCENT WINNER TAKES ALL AT EARDLEY (IMP USA) top sire in the breed - produced BAYARD CHESTERDRAWERS top beagle puppy at Crufts 2020 owned by Steve Jepson and Tim Jones and BAYARD GLORY BEE who won RBIS at the Beagle Association Open Show when only 9 months old. Bee has only been lightly shown, owned and handled by David Craig.
